In the summer of 2017, we were given unique access to one of Peter Hook’s original Shergold Marathon 6 Bass guitars, an instrument that has always been a core part of Hooky’s unique style/sound, and an integral part of the sound of Joy Division and New Order.

With this level of accessibility to a Hooky original Shergold, we were able to go into microscopic detail, and, pretty much, create a clone of it.

Fast forward to autumn 2019, after completing the R&D process, we took the prototype to Hooky in Manchester to check out for the first time. Peter was amazed that it felt instantly familiar to him as the bass he had used throughout his career. Instead of bringing the prototype Hooky Bass back to Eastwood HQ in Liverpool for final changes, Peter asked if he could keep it and wanted to take it straight out on tour with him to the US! Who are we to argue?? And, ultimately, we don’t feel we could have gotten any higher level of satisfaction from Hooky’s response.
